How to write a blog?

There are 9 major points that you should keep in mind while writing a blog.

Step 1: choose a relevant topic

This is the most important part of writing a blog. The topic that you are picking to write about in a blog should resonate to the niche of your audience. Just imagine, if you have a website where you are updating about the cars and its news, and you write a blog on how to make chicken biriyani, how would your blog be useful for your audience?

To solve this problem, you can use tools like answer the public, google trends or BuzzSumo to find popular topics on your niche.

While picking topic try to concentrate on topics that address common issue or questions on your niche.

Step 2: Craft an Engaging title

when your blog shows up on the GSRP there is no guarantee that the user would open your blog if its just as common as the other blogs. So here comes the next major part engaging headline. This ensures that your blog stands out from the crowd.

There are some key factors that you should remember while creating a headline

  • Use action words that sounds like “discover,” “learn,” and “uncover”. This draw readers attention.  Here is a blog that shows the benefits of using power words in title.
  • Be specific and make sure that you clearly tell what the content of your Blog is.
  • Include relevant keywords in the blog, so that when someone searches for the topic your blog comes up.

Step 3: Write an Intriguing Introduction

Imagine that you wrote a blog and gave it a really good hook as the heading and the reader clicked on your blog. The next part they will read is the introduction. So is this part being dull and not interesting, the reader most probably will bounce and read another blog.

So, this is the place where you build the hype for the remaining blog to be read. This can be done in many ways. But the most effective ones are

  • Starting the intro by a hook, like a surprising fact, question or anecdote about the topic that you wrote your blog about so that the reader will remain interested.
  • This can be continued by saying what the reader will gain from reading the post.
  • These two techniques should be used properly by making it short. The introduction should be brief and get straight to the point.

Step 4: Structure your content

A man is using a laptop, books and a notebook on dark table background, top view. A student studies online.

Structuring your blog could be the biggest help you could do for a reader. A well organized content is more engaging and easier to read. The key factors that you should consider while structuring your blog are.

  • Always divide the content into multiple sections and provide sub-headings to the content. This helps the reader in locating the topics easily and not waste time reading the things they don’t want to.
  • Add bulleting to talk about points. This method has been used for a very long time as it makes the content easily digestible for the readers.
  • Always try to keep the size of the paraph small. If you have a big paragraph break it into 2 small paragraphs. This allows the content to flow better and enhances readability.

Step 5: Provide valuable and relevant content

If you write a blog and the content in there is no useful, the readers will gradually decrease and this makes your other blogs less credible too. To avoid this there are some things to keep in mind

  • Try using images that represent the topic that you are talking about. This makes the readers mind more comfortable to read while looking at the blog, as it is better to see some images that makes sense of what you are talking about rather than a page full of text.
  • The next tip is while saying about something complex, make sure you attach an image that represents it visually.
  • Always make your points credible. This can be done by providing case study about the topics.

Step 6: optimization for SEO.

Search engine optimization is crucial for increasing blog’s visibility. Which translates to more traffic. This can be done by

  • You content should focus on a keyword and this should be integrated in the blog naturally. But remember not to add this keyword so many times as this may cause keyword stuffing and could lead to problems in SEO.
  • The meta title and the meta description should be compelling and include the keyword of your blog.
  • Also give your keyword as the permalink.
  • Don’t forget to add backlinks to your other blogs.

Step 7: Call to action.

Giving a call-to-action guides the reader on what to do next. Most common types of call to actions are

  • Asking the readers to leave a comment, share the post, or follow you on social media.
  • Then comes promoting offers, include links to special offers to product or services. These are to be provided only if it is relevant to the content of the blog.

Step 8: Proofread and Edit

Imagine you reading a blog and it is full of spelling mistakes and grammatical errors, would you read it fully? I wouldn’t. even is someone reads it the credibility of the author could go downhill. This is the major reason why you should proofread. So how can we overcome this?

  • You can use tools like Grammarly to spot mistakes, and can edit it with a click.
  • But what if the content is plagiarized? We can check if it is plagiarized by using tools like small SEO tools. And rephrase the plagiarized content.
  • Make sure your content has a logical flow to it and is easy to understand.
  • The best we can do is just ask someone else to read the blog. They will be able to find the mistakes that our eyes couldn’t, as finding mistakes in other is what humans do.

Step 9: Publish and promote

Now that your Blog is all polished and ready to publish, its time to share it with the world. But don’t be hasty. Take your time and do it this way.

  • Determine the best time to publish the blog based on your audience’s activity.
  • Promote it on social media, this helps your blog to reach a broader audience. Maybe even ask your friends to share it as well.
  • Never leave your blog just like that after that. Respond to the comments. Clear their doubts and engage more with the audience. This is the essential formula for building a community around your blog.

Conclusion

To conclude it all, let me say it once again. Writing a blog involves many fundaments like understanding the audience, creating a catchy headline, a compelling content, optimizing for search engine visibility etc. By following these steps I’m pretty sure that you too can write a successful blog and increase traffic to your website to achieve your blogging goals. Happy blogging!
